Marine Research and Study Grants

RFA / TEXAS recognizes the important benefits of Marine Research and Study, and fully supports the efforts of those involved in research seeking to improve our fishery for the benefit of the recreational angler. It must be understood however, that not all such research is fair and unbiased, and that some research may be conducted solely for the benefit of the anti - fishing movement, commercial fishing interests, environmental  polluters, developers, and others with motives detrimental to the recreational angling community.

There is also the danger of misuse of research data by governmental regulatory agencies, and by a small minority of well connected anglers with self serving motives. These perils have been magnified recently by the increasing number of applicants for the many study grants available from governmental and private agencies.

The tremendous potential for misuse and abuse of research data makes it imperative that RFA / TEXAS continues to support those researchers with pure motivation, undertaken to enhance the recreational fishery, and to strongly oppose those attempting to undermine a healthy marine environment, and  the rights of the recreational angler.
